A Hands-On Tour of the Direct Loan Tools Software
This session provides schools with an introduction to the DL Tools software. Participants will walk through all major functions of the software using exercises and case studies and will learn how to use the software to better manage direct loan processing, especially reconciliation. It is designed with the beginner user in mind.
Best Practices in Using Direct Loan Late Stage Delinquency Assistance (LSDA)
This hands-on session provides schools with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement effective LSDA strategies. Use of LSDA best practices enable schools to reduce the number of borrowers and dollars that go into default each year, while at the same time reducing their Cohort Default Rate (CDR). Using their own late stage borrower data on the DL Servicer Web site, schools will learn how to create reports, download information, and perform other important tasks to support their LSDA efforts.
DL Funding and Cash Management A-Z
This session will cover funding functionality in COD and GAPS, including drawdown substantiation and how to return funds electronically via GAPS. Presenters will also provide information about funding reports (including pended and funded disbursement lists) and how to manage cash effectively.
Best Practices for Processing Direct Loans at Your School
This session will provide schools with best practices on how to process Direct Loans. Participants will gain many practical tips from experienced and knowledgeable school and Federal Student Aid staff on how to use available tools, such as reports and software, to improve DL processing. In addition, schools will be able to talk about processing and policy issues and how they handle various challenges at their school.
Direct Loans A-Z
This beginner DL session will cover the basics of the Direct Loan Program as well as an overview of DL Processing in COD. Learn about DL terminology, systems, and policy. This is a perfect session for financial aid staff new to Direct Loans or for schools interested in Direct Loans.
Direct Loans – How to Get Started and Get Going!
This session will help schools learn the correct procedure for a school to actively participate in the Direct Loan Program. The information to be shared will include the process to make a smooth transition into the Direct Loan Program.
What’s New in Direct Loan: Grad PLUS and other HERA related changes
During this session, presenters will describe how the Direct Loan Program is operationalizing the changes resulting from the enactment of the HERA, including the implementation of Grad PLUS, loan limit changes, and origination fee changes. During the session, attendees will be given the opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues.
What You Need to Know About Direct Loan Reconciliation and Closeout
This session will cover important information regarding Direct Loan reconciliation and Program Year Closeout processes, as well as discuss some best practices from the school community.
Direct Loan Reports and Reference Materials: Tools of the Trade
This session will highlight key reports, reference materials, and aWeb sites that can assist schools in administering the Direct Loan Program more effectively and efficiently.
How Direct Loan Servicing is Improving the Financial Aid Experience For You and Your Students
Representatives from Federal Student Aid's Borrower Services will share how HERA changes and improvements in borrower outreach activities impact your financial aid office. They will also present highlights from school and borrower customer service surveys, as well as provide a refresher course in online school reports. Finally, they will share planned future enhancements to available reports.
